Saying Good Bye to an Old Friend.

When the United States flag (Old Glory) becomes worn, torn, faded or badly soiled, it is time to replace it with a new flag, and the old flag should be “retired” with all the dignity and respect befitting our nation’s flag.
The following is a direct quotation from the beginning of Title 36, Section 176, of the laws of the United States of America:
“No disrespect should be shown the flag of the United States of America. “
Furthermore, Paragraph K of Title 36, Section 176 states:
“The Flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified manner, preferably by burning.”

The American Legion Riders from Hokendauqua Post 739 will be holding a flag retirement ceremony on Friday, 8 June at 6pm. We will be meeting at Rice-Ebner at 5pm for the ride to Hokendauqua. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend this solemn ceremony. Our next meeting is scheduled for 10 June at 2pm.
