Poker Run with Slatington ALR

Thought I'd take a minute to post some pictures of the run on Saturday with the Slatington Post American Legion Riders. They put on a great and enjoyable event which ended at the Whitehall VFW. The picture above is Pokey at the VFW post which has an F14 display which overlooks the Valley.

The ride started at the Slatington American legion - wound throuh Lehighton, to Fogelsville, stopped at some interesting places enroute and ended at the VFW. The reception from the Slatington ALR group was great...

Post 588 American Legion Riders

We are a Chapter of the American Legion Riders based out of Easton, Pennsylvania. We are located at Rice-Ebner Post 588 which is at 423 Davis Street, Easton, PA 18042.

Membership in our Legion Riders post is open to anyone meeting ALR membership criteria...

Membership Requirements
The membership requirements for the American Legion Riders are very straightforward. To become a member, you must...

...be a current member in good standing of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of the American Legion.
...be the owner of a motorcycle of at least 250cc engine displacement and must possess a valid driver's license in your state of residence (military equivalents acceptable as well) ~or~ must be the legal spouse of an ALR member in good standing within the Chapter of application.

To join the American Legion, you must have served at least one day on ACTIVE DUTY during any of these periods of conflict:
April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918 (World War I)
December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946 (World War II)
June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1955 (Korean War)
February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)
August 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon/Grenada) December 20, 1989 to January 31, 1990 (Operation Just Cause - Panama)*
August 2, 1990 to today (Operation Desert Shield/Storm/Iraqi Freedom)

A copy of your DD214 showing dates and character of service is required at application.

To join the SAL, you must be a male descendant (includes stepsons and adopted sons but does not include in-laws) of...
...a member of The American Legion
...or a Veteran who died in service during any of the qualifying periods of conflict listed above
...or of a Veteran who served during one of the qualifying periods of conflict, was honorably discharged, and died subsequent to their service
A copy of The American Legion membership card or DD214 of the Veteran through whom you are qualified is required at application.

To join the Auxiliary, you must be a woman who...
...is eligible for membership in The American Legion
...or is the mother, wife, daughter, sister, granddaughter, great-grand-daughter, or grandmother of members of The American Legion
...or is the mother, wife, daughter, sister, granddaughter, great-grand-daughter, or grandmother of deceased veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces during the listed war periods
...or is a step relative to a qualified or deceased veteran.

Note that, as with the SAL, in-law relatives to the qualified Veteran are not eligible for membership.

A copy of The American Legion membership card or DD214 of the Veteran through whom you are qualified is required at application.

In the fall of 1993, the original American Legion Riders idea was a shared dream of then Post Commander Bill (Polka) Kaledas and Chuck (Tramp) Dare at Post 396 in Garden City, Michigan.

The idea was to start a motorcycle association that would operate within the American Legion. It consisted of members of the American Legion, Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion who shared an interest in motorcycling. it was meant to be a family oriented group. Since then, several groups have been formed throughout the country. These American Legion motorcyclist groups all share a common interest...riding.

Riding...participating in parades and ceremonies promoting the mission and image of the American Legion.

Also, many groups have been instrumental in raising monies for numerous charities, contributing to those in need.

We are NOT a M/C! We don't practice M/C rules and regulations. We are an association, a group of American Legion members that ride for a cause.

Whether it is working together on Veteran's issues, participating in a local parade as a motorcycle color guard, raising monies for a charity or cruising together on a beautiful fall colored highway, the American Legion Riders program has provided a lot of enjoyment for those members who share a common interest in motorcycling.
